CRC Empowering Change Conference
We were thrilled to partner with the Central Remedial Clinic and lead parallel sessions at the CRC’s Empowering Change Conference that took place in October at Clontarf Castle.
Dr Jennifer Ryan and Dr Manjula Manikandan delivered a “Lifespan Approach to Disability” session. This session included presentations on the development of physical and mental conditions among people with cerebral palsy and the experiences of health services among adults with cerebral palsy. Within this session Rachel Glennane, Human Rights and Equality Lead at the HSE delivered – Empowering decision making in exchange of “best interest” – Assisted Decision making (capacity) Act 2015. We are also very grateful to Éabha Wall who spoke of her experience of growing up with cerebral palsy and seeking health services and supports as an adult. Éabha also shared these insights on Cerebral Palsy Grows, a podcast from the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.

Dr Ailish Malone, Karen Brady and Dr Karen McConnell led two parallel sessions on physical activity “What we know” and “What can we do”. Within this a number of presentation’s were delivered by clinicians, researchers, industry professionals and young people with disability. Talia McDowell, an adapted dance facilitator and member of our young person panel on the day, delivered energetic movement breaks. The energy that she brought to these sessions was infectious, transforming the room into a vibrant hub of engagement.
